New Dirt Track Taking Shape at TMS

NEW DIRT TRACK TAKING SHAPE AT TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY; SPRINT CAR RACES TO OPEN 2000 SCHEDULE

FORT WORTH-DALLAS (Nov. 9, 1999) - As the dust settles on the 1999 racing season at Texas Motor Speedway, construction crews are busy moving dirt at the site of the new dirt track at the speedway. The new facility will host the Southern Bleacher Classic Pennzoil World of Outlaws on March 30-31 in the sprint car debut at the speedway. The dirt track will also be home to the O'Reilly Texas Challenge on Oct. 12 and 14 next year.

"The work on the dirt track has escalated over the past few weeks, and it is really taking shape," speedway general manager Eddie Gossage said.

"Bringing the sprint cars here is just another effort to provide our fans with the kind of racing they enjoy."

Those traveling along Interstate-35W between Fort Worth and Denton can watch the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track take shape over the next few months. The layout is located between the super speedway and the Interstate highway.

Tickets for individual sprint car races go on sale this Saturday, Nov. 13, along with tickets for all race events at the speedway for the 2000 season. Once again, Texas Motor Speedway will host a pair of Pep Boys Indy Racing League and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races as well as a NASCAR Winston Cup and Busch Series race.

Recently, the speedway also announced the addition of road racing for the 2000 season on a new course to be built in the speedway infield. The Grand Prix of Texas (American Le Mans Series and BF Goodrich Trans-Am Series) is scheduled for Labor Day weekend, Sept. 2-3, on the new road course.
