SONOMA, Calif. (April 22, 2014) – Sonoma Raceway will team with Novvi, LLC this race season, as the Emeryville-based company supplies the raceway with its latest line of biodegradable and renewable lubricants.

Novvi Engine Oil, a high-performance oil sourced from plant sugars, is a drop-in replacement for traditional lubricating oils, but is derived from renewable resources. Novvi Engine Oil will be used in all raceway fleet vehicles. It is currently used in the two-stroke and four-stroke vehicles at the Simraceway Performance Driving Center, the driving school located at Sonoma Raceway, including the highest performance Lola open-wheel race cars. Novvi Air Compressor Oil and Hydraulic Fluid will also be used in equipment throughout the facility.

“Sonoma Raceway is a terrific partner for Novvi because the raceway’s values of ultimate performance and environmental sustainability are exactly aligned with the benefits of our lubricants,” said Novvi CEO, Jeff Brown.

Novvi is the first producer of biodegradable and renewable base oils that can be formulated to match the performance of the best available petroleum-based products, contributing to a cleaner environment and more sustainable lubricants industry.

“The Novvi product is performance based and holds up extremely well under adverse conditions, the kind of conditions that are associated with any racing environment.” said KC Morrison, Simraceway Performance Karting Center manager.

The Simraceway Performance Karting Center is recognized as one of the premier karting facilities in the United States. Simraceway operates a fleet of 20 Rotax-powered Sprint Karts and 14 Honda-powered concession karts more than 200 days a year, all of which use Novvi oil. The karts are put through their paces over 200 days a year in all weather conditions and in a wide spectrum of temperatures.

Novvi Oil provides enhanced performance while reducing environmental impact, which dovetails with the raceway’s Accelerating Sustainable Performance program. In addition to the use of the renewable oil, the raceway also boasts a comprehensive sustainability program, which includes a 1,652-panel solar power installation, nearly 3,000 sheep that live on property and help maintain the grasses and fire lanes around the facility, as well as a recycling program which boasts more than 402 tons of recycled goods (805,514 pounds) since 2004.

In addition, Sonoma Raceway, in partnership with Levy Restaurants and Sonoma Valley High School, planted the raceway’s first organic garden in 2013. Fruits and vegetables from the garden are used at the Raceway Café and in Levy catering. During the upcoming summer months, the garden will yield tomatoes, peppers, edible flowers, green beans, lettuces, kale, chard and eggplant.
