FOGG WILL LEAD CALTEX FORD CHARGE TOMORROW

Angus Fogg will lead the Caltex Racing Ford charge at the Taupo Motor Racing Circuit tomorrow after backing up his fifth fastest time in this morning's practice session with third fastest time in qualifying this afternoon.

Teammate Paul Pedersen was also on the pace setting the eighth fastest time in both sessions.

With over 30 Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore V8s at the Taupo circuit for the sixth round of the 2004/05 Parker ENZED New Zealand V8 Touring Car championship this weekend the timed practice and qualifying sessions were split in two, with the fastest half of the field in one group and the slower half in the other.

Fogg and Pedersen joined the other top-liners in the fast group and both practiced and qualified well under the existing class lap record - 41.008 - set this time last year by Holden Commodore driver Paul Manuell.

Fogg - whose best time was a 40.500 - has made a practice of practicing and qualifying well and his comments about today's two sessions, the first held in the cool of the morning, the second in hot, sticky conditions under a cloudless blue sky, bode well for his and teammate Paul Pedersen's performance in the three Parker ENZED New Zealand V8 Touring Car races tomorrow.

"I'm reasonably happy, all things considered, "said Fogg. "I probably missed the ideal window in terms of when the tyres are at their best, but the car was good and I got the time."

The plan tomorrow, according to Fogg, both for himself and Paul Pedersen, is to make the most of their top ten starting positions - and perhaps more importantly on the tight Taupo track - keep out of trouble and finish all three races.

"The cars will be good race cars, and I wouldn't imagine that it will be too many laps before Paul is on my tail, " said Fogg.

Fellow Ford driver John McIntyre was the fastest qualifier today. He will start tomorrow's first race from pole position with Holden driver Kayne Scott beside him on the front row and Fogg and championship points leader Wade Henshaw sharing the second row. Another Ford/Holden combo, Brady Kennett and defending champion Andy Booth share on row three.
