POWERBUILT RACING TEAM HEADS SOUTH
Powerbuilt Racing Team driver Luke Youlden is looking forward to putting last weekend behind him when he arrives at Teretonga Park in Invercargill for Round 6 of the NZV8s Championship.
Youlden raced on both sides of the Tasman last weekend, taking part in the Australian V8 Supercar Development Series at Adelaide on Friday and Saturday before arriving at Timaru, scene of Round 5 of the NZV8s championship, at 2.00am on Sunday morning. He was due to compete in two races at the South Canterbury track but the first only lasted three corners before he was left with nowhere to go when another car spun in front of him. His luck was little better in Adelaide where he suffered mechanical problems throughout the weekend.
A busy Youlden has returned to Australia and will arrive in New Zealand's southernmost city ready for action tonight. After a weekend he described as a "calamity" Youlden was already looking ahead to the next round last Sunday evening. "Bring on Teretonga," he said. "Our luck has to change." The versatile Australian driver enjoys the Teretonga circuit which is celebrating it's 50th Anniversary this year. "I enjoy the track, it's one of New Zealand's best circuits, it is older with a bit of character. It is quite fast and flowing and I like that." Youlden has commented on several occasions this year that the Powerbuilt Falcon is a stronger car this year than last. He has qualified very strongly at every round to date, always within the top four although he was relegated to the rear of the grid at Taupo due to an engine change and of course he missed qualifying at Timaru while he raced in Australia.
"I'm looking forward to attacking that place in a decent car," Luke says of Teretonga. "The car will be strong there although I'm looking forward to not so much hail," he says in reference to last years diabolical conditions - the worst on record at the circuit.
Before he hits the track for testing on Friday Youlden will be involved in a local radio promotion at McDonalds Family Restaurant in Invercargill. Several NZV8s drivers will enjoy breakfast with some lucky youngsters before the drivers take the children to school in their T-cars (a replica of their race machines). Luke Youlden and the Powerbuilt Racing Team are happy to be involved in a promotion that will be a real thrill for a young Southlander.
After testing at the 2.6 kilometre circuit on Friday, Youlden and the Powerbuilt Falcon will be involved in qualifying at the circuit on Saturday morning. The first race for the category over 12 laps will then take place at 3.20 pm that afternoon. On Sunday the series fights out a 16 - lap race starting at 11.00am before the now traditional reverse grid race on Sunday afternoon. This race covers 20 laps and is scheduled for 3.15pm.
