FOGG KEEN TO CONSOLIDATE CALTEX TEAM FORM AT TIMARU

Caltex Racing Star Mart Ford Falcon driver Angus Fogg is keen to build on the strong early season form he and teammate Paul Pedersen have shown at the fourth round of the Parker ENZED NZ V8s Championship at the Timaru International Motor Raceway this weekend.

Fogg has put his Caltex Star Mart Ford Falcon V8 on pole position at two of the three rounds held so far, and won his first race - both of the season and in the V8 category - at Invercargill's Teretonga Park last weekend.

Teammate and former New Zealand TraNZam and V8 Touring Car champion Paul Pedersen, who drives the Caltex Havoline-liveried Ford Falcon V8, has also had a strong start to the season, qualifying third at the first round, second at the second and third at Invercargill.

Though both drivers had weekends to forget at the sodden Timaru round of the Parker ENZED series last summer, both profess to liking the tight, technical Levels circuit and Fogg says that - generally speaking - he usually does very well there.

After last weekend's wind, rain and hail-swept Parker ENZED round at Invercargill's Teretonga Park, Fogg - who oversees the building and engineering of the International Motorsport-run cars as well as driving the Caltex Star Mart one - and members of his Caltex Racing crew have been hard at work at Timaru cleaning the cars - 'that,' says Fogg,'took half a day' - and prepping them for this weekend's round.

With weather conditions in the South Island still changeable Fogg says he and Pedersen still have some work to do on getting their wet set-up exactly right, but if anything last weekend's cool, dry conditions on Saturday and sodden, streaming conditions on Sunday gave them some valuable 'real-world' data from which to work if the cold sou-westerlies do to the track this weekend what they did at Invercargill last.

Dunlop introduced a new wet tyre at the beginning of the season and the Invercargill round was the first that it was pressed into service. Unlike the road-based tyre it replaces, the new one is a genuine 'full-wet' racing tyre which Fogg says offers considerably more grip than the old one on a wet track, but loses its performance edge quicker if the track is drying.

Fogg's mechanics had to change an engine between the second and third races at Teretonga, but that apart the cars came out of the weekend virtually unscathed - a far cry from the second round when Pedersen's car sustained considerable panel damage after being hit in the first race and Fogg's car needed work after a glancing blow from another car in the same race.

With his first win to go with his two pole positions Fogg has consolidated sixth place in the championship points standings and remains within striking distance of the leaders.

Pedersen improved two places from 10th to 12th at Teretonga and within striking distance of seventh placed fellow Ford driver, Australian Cameron McLean.
