JOHNNY MAC ANNOUNCES 2006/2007 RACING PLANS

Ford's most successful driver in the NZV8s Championship over the past 3 seasons, John McIntyre, (known as Johnny Mac to his many fans) has today announced that he is to start his own team, John McIntyre Racing (JMR). McIntyre will drive the team's recently purchased Ford Falcon BA in this year's NZV8s Championship that starts at Pukekohe Park, Auckland in early November.

Johnny Mac has an enviable record driving for the blue oval, with 12 wins and 8 podiums from 45 starts - a 44% start to podium ratio. McIntyre now has the chance to increase that record with his own team.

John McIntyre Racing will be based in Hastings at a purpose built facility located at Lodge Auto Centre. The team comprises Richard, Craig and Perry Field, Grant Blackberry and Don McIntyre who form a tight - knit, Hawkes Bay based unit. They are an experienced crew and have been part of John's racing for at least 14 years. During that time they have assisted McIntyre to wins in the Nissan Sentra GT Cup, the LK500, two Manfeild Enduros, 2 litre Touring Cars, TraNZam races in Australia, NZV8s and most recently a Group N 1600 - 2000cc class win at the 24 Hours Of Nurburgring Race in Germany.

The car that the team has acquired has not run for two seasons and consequently a full rebuild and re-development programme is well underway. Engines for the car will be supplied by Tony Marsh who is also originally from the Hawkes Bay which is where McIntyre, now resident in Auckland, was himself was born and bred.

McIntyre is enthusiastic about the challenge ahead. "It is a fantastic opportunity to start my own team with a group of guys who have been with me a long time", he say's. "The NZV8s Championship is rapidly becoming a professional environment and you need to have a full time programme to be competitive. Team ownership was always in my motor racing plans, it's great to enter straight into New Zealand's premier championship". McIntyre is aged 29.

One thing that will not change for the 2006/2007 season is the fact that McIntyre will retain #47 for his racing effort. The number, which has adorned McIntyre's cars whenever possible, was originally his father Don's racing number which he has used since 1987 until now on his rapid BDA Escort.

Already, John McIntyre Racing has received great local support and the team is looking forward to announcing their full complement of sponsors in the near future.
