PIKES PEAK INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY

SUPERBIKE WEEKEND FEATURES SIX RACES, TIGHT POINTS BATTLES (COURTESY OF AMA)

FOUNTAIN, Colo. - This weekend's Sept. 4-6 Cruise America American Motorcyclist Association Superbike Weekend presented by Suzuki at Pikes Peak International Raceway includes more than the MBNA Superbikes.

The AMA pro tour also brings five other high-caliber race series that will provide three full days of practice, qualifying and racing.

The other series include: Pro Honda Oils 600 SuperSport; TeamLine 750 SuperSport; Pirelli Formula Xtreme; Elf Race Fuels & Lubricants Grand Prix, and the Progressive Insurance Pro Thunder series.

In 600 SuperSport, Suzuki's Steve Crevier hopes to continue distancing himself from second-ranked rider Doug Chandler, who also leads the Superbike standings. Crevier leads by 18 points, and will be well on his way to winning his first championship title if he can take the win at PPIR and leave Chandler and Ben Bostrom dueling for the runner-up position.

In 750 SuperSport, Barnett Suzuki's Rich Alexander will attempt to close the gap on series leader Steve Rapp, who rides for the San Gabriel Springs Suzuki team. Alexander gained 5 points on Rapp at the last race in Brainerd, Minn. Rapp, who finished fourth at Brainerd, saw his lead shrink to 12 points, and he'll need a strong performance at Pikes Peak to defend his championship hopes.

In Xtreme, Eric Bostrom (Ben's younger brother) and Tripp Nobles have combined to win every race in the series for the it appears the Erion Honda Team. Eric Bostrom has eight of those wins, which has given the Californian a 40-point lead.

In Grand Prix, points leader Roland Sands and the Performance Machine Yamaha team enjoy a 47-point cushion over the field, leaving Sands with the job of riding consistently and conservatively to protect his title bid. Charles Sorensen, with three wins, is second while Kurtis Roberts, who has one win, is third.

In Pro Thunder, each of the top three riders maintains a shot at the title. Third-place rider Curtis Adams and his Orange County Triumph have been strongest, with six wins this season. But missing the first round of the series has put Adams 5 points behind second-place rider Shawn Higbee. Higbee, riding the Tilley's Buell Lightning, is 11 points behind series leader Paul Harrell, who like Adams, rides for Orange County Triumph.
