Race of Champions announces group stage draws
Race Of Champions' organisers have announced the draws for this weekend's event, which takes place in Saudi Arabia.
Indianapolis 500 winners Juan Pablo Montoya, Helio Castroneves and Ryan Hunter-Reay have all been drawn together in the group stages, and will go head-to-head in Saturday's individual races.
They will be joined in Group A by either Memo Rojas or Abraham Calderon.
In Group B, Le Mans legend Tom Kristensen will be joined by fellow Le Mans winner Timo Bernhard and David Coulthard. The fourth member of the group will be winner of the round 1 race between Rudy van Buren and the eRoc winner.
McLaren's Lando Norris, World Rallycross champion Johan Kristoffersson and DTM champion Rene Rast will form Group C, and will be joined by either new BMW DTM driver Joel Eriksson or the fastest driver from Lebanon in ROC Factor Middle East.
Finally, Group D will include IndyCar champion Josef Newgarden, double World Rallycross champion Petter Solberg, and WRC2 rally winner Yazeed Al-Rajhi.
The winner of round 1 between the fastest driver from UAE in ROC Factor Middle East and ROC Factor Saudi Arabia will join them as the fourth member of the group.
The top two drivers in each group progress to the quarter finals, which are followed by a knockout tournament until the Grand Final.
Friday's Nations Cup draw was also announced, with Germany, Latin America, Mexico and USA forming Group A. Team Nordic, Great Britain, Sweden and Sim Racing All Stars will form Group B, while Saudi Arabia, UAE and Lebanon will make up Group C.
