DISBURY BACK IN THE F500 WINNER¹S CIRCLE
Darren Disbury charged back into the winner¹s circle in a stunning performance aboard the Dave Jack Paving & Landscaping/Century Batteries Formula 500 #17 machine at Riverview Speedway last Saturday.
With team-mate Paul Ryan absent from proceedings while on PR duty at Bathurst with the Cat Racing V8 Supercar team, Disbury won both his heats and finished second in the feature aboard his new Foster chassis.
The success came after initial teething problems with the Rotax engine at the previously meeting which side-lined Disbury while leading his first race in the new car.
A testing session on the Thursday prior to the race meeting sorted the Rotax power plant and allowed Disbury to dial in the handling in the new machine.
"We were delighted to win with the new car, especially after having an engine fail while leading the previous week," Disbury said.
"The team has spent a lot of time trying to sort the engine problems and it certainly paid off.
"It would have been nice to made three wins from three starts, but getting the car to complete the night was the first objective."
After starting from position seven in the final, Disbury trailed home Mark Macsai aboard last year¹s Australian Championship winning car.
"It is great to get some laps under my belt in the new car and reassuring to know we have two cars that are right on the pace," Disbury said.
The team¹s next outing will be at Speedway City on November 27 with Paul Ryan returning to the #19 machine for a two car assault.
"From our dyno testing, we know our engines are very powerful and the cars should be well suited to the bigger Speedway City track," Disbury said.
"It will be Paul¹s first run back at the track but he has had great success there in the past.
"Each of us has had a good run in the cars at Murray Bridge and I am looking forward to having both cars run strong together at the front of the field."
Prior to his "retirement" five years ago, Ryan previously won the prestigious Formula 500 Christmas Cup during the 1993/94 season.
