Round 7 at the German Grand Prix

Maiden Victory for Roland Asch - Stephane Ortelli Second

Pole setter Roland Asch (D, Porsche Centre Munich) drove a polished race to take his ever first Porsche Pirelli SuperCup victory before home crowds at the seventh round on Germany's 6.823 km high speed Hockenheim- ring. The champagne soaked 49-year-old was estatic. "Finally! My car was absolutely perfect. We took the risk and set up a flat rear-wing for top speed - it worked brilliantly." Asch's victory now puts him ninth overall in the championship.

A duel for second saw Stephane Ortelli (MC) and Oliver Mathai (D) lock horns over the 10 lap race distance, with Ortelli pipping the German at the post to take second. "That's worth a lot of points," said Ortelli. "After qualifying third, I attacked right from the start. It was a great fight, but Oliver sure didn't make it easy." The original planned 12 lap sprint was disrupted with a safety car phase from laps 4 to 8 and short- ened to 10 laps after Bruno Eichmann (Carsport-Amag) was nudged by a competitor, causing the Swissman's Porsche to impact with the barrier at high-speed. Uwe Brettel, manager of the series, announced that Bruno Eichmann was in stable condition, and had sustained severe bruising.

For a first-timer on Hockenheimring, Tim Harvey (GB,Parabolica-McCulloch) secured his best qualifying and race result of the season, starting from seventh to finish sixth behind Sascha Maassen in fourth and Bernd May- lander in fifth. After a bad start team mate Johnny Mowlem came into his own, avoiding pirouetting drivers Juergen von Gartzen and VIP guest driver Christian Abt to take eighth. Despite a disappointing race weekend for Ralf Kelleners, that saw him finish ninth, the German still comfort- ably holds the points lead.
