Toronto, Ontario / June 05, 2000

Sydney, BC, resident Ryan Floer claimed two second-place finishes in CASC-OR (Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs - Ontario Region) Formula 1600 competition this weekend at Shannonville Motorsport Park near Belleville, Ontario. The sixteen year old proved he is no flash in the pan by backing up his impressive debut three weeks ago at Mosport where he claimed a win and a second.

Floer, a rookie fresh out of karting, has heads turning with his remarkable natural talent. To date, he has been beaten only by Matt White, a Formula 1600 veteran who has raced and won at the national level. White also has the advantage of racing a state-of-the-art chassis while Floer hones his skills in an older car. Nonetheless, the youngster is steadily gaining pace and, having tasted victory already, is hungry for more wins.

The weekend did not start off quite as Ryan would have liked it, as he and the team had difficulty finding the set up for the tricky Shannonville track. They kept at it, however, and eventually had the car fine tuned for the races.

During the qualifying session, Floer set the fourth fastest time in his Britain West Motorsports / Floer Racing entry, placing his car on the outside of the second row for Saturday's race. From the start of the race, he quickly worked his way to second, but was unable to catch White for the win. Floer's second-place added nicely to his points total and gave him a front-row starting position for Sunday.

In race two, Ryan started and finished in second place, simply unable to get past White.

"I guess being beaten by Matt isn't so bad," said Floer. "He's very experienced and I'm learning a lot by racing with him. I'm not intending to finish behind him all year though."

Floer returns to Shannonville for another double header weekend July 24-25.
