ENGSTROM BACK TO THE TOP IN NORWAY

The fifth round of the very competitive STCC Championship took place in Falkenberg Motorbana circuit in Norway.

A much better weekend for Engstrom Motorsport, although it could have been even better if he had not lost 6 seconds during the mandatory pit-stop, which took 16 seconds instead of the 9-10" which are normally taken by the team to replace the front tyres! During free practice, Tomas immediately knew that the Falkenberg problems were far behind him. He qualified for the Super Pole session by making an ultimate attempt in the last minute, reaching P2 at only 1 tenth of Goransson in the BMW.

"I was confident I could catch the Pole today because we had some very good settings."said Tomas "Unfortunately I was too optimistic and entered the first chicane too quickly. I came back out losing 2.5 tenths, pushing me back to fifth place."

"I had a very good start, jumping from P5 to P3 in the first corner" Engstrom commented, "easily following Bjork and Goransson. Both decided to go into the pit at the same time while I took the bet to remain on the track for two more laps and try to overtake them after my pit stop. Unfortunately, we encountered a problem during this operation which is always delicate, and I re-joined the race in a less comfortable 5th position. Although I was faster than the two Audis in front of me, it was impossible to overtake them, and I crossed the line still in 5th position."

The smile is back on Tomas' face, even though he felt he narrowly missed the podium. The speed was excellent, the car is on track for victory and Tomas gained a place in the championship classification.
