James Thompson beat the best drivers from Denmark, Sweden and Norway

James Thompson and Hartmann Honda Racing managed to win when they had their first race meeting together in the new Scandinavian Touring Car Cup. Having started second on the grid at FDM Jyllandsringen the British driver moved past works Volvo driver Robert Dahlgren to lead and control the first race, taking a race win in championship number three this year following wins in both the European Touring Car Cup and the Danish Touringcar Championship.

"I am very pleased and very happy, as it proves that we have two good cars," James Thompson says of his first race weekend in the chassis that previously has been used by Wolfgang Treml.

"The car was very, very good. Once I overtook the Volvo, I pushed as hard as I could for as long as I dared, as we had no experience with this set-up from previous race runs. It was the first time here with the Yokohama tyres, last years was with Dunlop obviously, it was the first race distance, so we have had no practice, at least with this chassis. I pushed as hard as I could for as long as I thought necessary and then controlled the gap until the end of the race."

Three weeks ago James Thompson's regular chassis was heavily damaged in a crash at Ring Djursland, forcing him to take over the team's second chassis.

"Although we won the race, it hasn't been an easy weekend, so we had to work hard with the car," James Thompson says. "We very rarely touched my regular car, but this car is a bit older and it is slightly different so we had to make changes to get the car to where I needed it to be. I am pleased that we managed that to the races."

Having won race one James Thompson had to start from eighth position for race two, where he managed to progress to sixth place at the chequered flag.

"It was obviously a difficult race, because I had the two Volvos to overtake," he says. "The first race was the important one to show the speed we had in qualifying and that we were able to compete and win the race. The second race for me was, to be honest, to make sure I did not make any damage to the car, because last time at Djursland was a total disaster. We cannot afford to damage the car. So the first race was the prize, the second race was damage limitation to bring the car home in one piece and not take any risks."
