INGO WINS AGAIN IN THE SUDAM SUPERTOURING

Obera (06/09/98) - Brazilian Ingo Hoffmann, driving a team Pro.As/Mastercard BMW 320i, secured his second consecutive victory at the South-American Touring Car Championship by winning the series eight round, today, in this city. Ingo was dominant all over the week end: the former Fittipaldi F1 driver started from pole position, led from start to finish and also scored the race fastest lap (122742), completing the 32 laps in 4517640, some 8634 ahead of his team mate Oscar Larrauri. With this result Larrauri increased his leadership in the series for 10 points: he now has 98 points against 88 from Caca Bueno (Peugeot 406), who finished sixth after a poor start. His team mate Juan Manuel Fangio II was third.

After the race Hoffman explained that he took full advantage of a well balanced car in a circuit famous for its topography and blend of slow and medium speed corners:

"I managed to do a perfect start and, with a car very well set-up, it was possible to build up some gap against Larrauri and the rest of the pack already on the initial laps. As important as winning again is the fact that today we did a 1-2 for the Pro.As/Mastercard team."

Oscar Larrauri, the reigning champion, equally had no trouble to hold second position, a result that increases his chances to keep the title. Caca Bueno, however, lost many places at the start, an expensive mistake in a circuit were overtaking is almost impossible. On the other hand, team mate Fangio II was busy defending third place against the attacks from Fernando Croceri (BMW 320i). The nephew of the five times F1 World Champion actually lost it momentarily on the last lap, but Croceri went wide when braking at the end of straight and eventually finished fourth, ahead of Cocho Lopezs Alfa Romeo 155. Lopez now shares the third place in the championship with Hoffmann. The South-American Touring Car Championship resumes on October 4, at Buenos Airess Autodromo Oscar Galvez.
