October 6 - Mario Andretti is named Driver of the Quarter Century in ceremonies at Charlotte Motor Speedway (1992).
October 10 - First entries filed for the first Indianapolis 500, to be run in May of the following year (1910).
October 11 - The Marquis de Portago is born in London, England (1928).
Correction: For the second week in a row I must apologize for an error. All the information about the 1965 Mexican GP, including the date, came from one source, while the info on Bob Bondurant came from another. Since the dates were the same, I put them together. As it turns out, the 1965 Mexican GP was not held on October 3rd, but later in the month. That date, however, is correct for Bondurant's first GP, only it was the USGP at Watkins Glen. As near as I can tell, I haven't gone for the "Hat Trick" this week.
