This Week in Racing History
September 14 - After drivers Bruce Mclaren and Denny Hulme set fastest times in Saturday morning qualifying session for the next day's Bridagehampton, New York, Can-Am race, Team McLaren goes water skiing instead of running afternoon qualifying session. No one betters their times (1969).
September 16 - Kenji Okazaki, the only driver from Japan with a National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) license, born (1959).
September 17 - Formula One great Sterling Moss born (1929).
September 18 - Jerry Titus drives his Shelby Mustang to victory in the Riverside, California, Trans-Am race, giving Ford the first Over 2-Liter Trans-Am title (1966).
September 19 - Rex Mays drives an Offenhauser powered midget racer 147.037 MPH on the Bonneville Salt Flats for a U.S. Class E (2-liter, unblown) record (1949).
September 20 - Jackie Ickx drives a Brabham BT26-Cosworth to win in the Canadian Grand Prix (1969).
