KANE ASTIN STEPS UP TO CLIO CUP SERIES AT HOME CIRCUIT

Cambridge racer Kane Astin is to step up to the ELF Renault Clio Cup with Michelin series this weekend at Snetterton competing with JHR Developments.

The 36-year-old Company Director of Saint Andrews Bureau, who until now has only competed in the Mini Se7en Championship, will race in place of series regular Fulvio Mussi (Abberton) at the Norfolk track for rounds 11 and 12 of the one-make series.

Kane is the second new driver to join the Clio Cup paddock for the second-half of the season along with 19-year-old Josh Cook (Bath) who joins Richard Colburn's Westbourne Motorsport outfit.

Despite limited mileage in the Clio Cup race car, which is based on the road-going Clio Renaultsport 200, Kane is looking forward to the weekend: "I've already set myself a goal of finishing in the top 10 and I can't wait to start racing, especially on my home track which I know so well. I hadn't intended to race in the Clios this year but through a connection with JHR I heard about this opportunity and I just couldn't turn it down."

He added: "At the moment I'm just competing at Snetterton but if things go well I'm certainly considering racing in the World Series by Renault event at Silverstone later this year."

Rounds 11 and 12 of the ELF Renault Clio Cup with Michelin take place at Norfolk's Snetterton circuit on 7th/8th August.
