Ex-Rooster kicks first goal in V8 BRute.

FORMER Sydney Roosters star Jack Elsegood kicked the biggest goal of his new sporting career with a maiden  win in the V8 BRutes Series on the Gold Coast Indy track today.

Elsegood led a field of more experienced rivals from start to finish, recording a victory he said went some way to compensating for his retirement from the Roosters rugby league team just before their premiership-winning season.

"I'm absolutely stoked. I've been coming to Indy as a spectator for many years and to win my first race here just couldn't be better," he said.

"The V8 BRute Series is an incredibly tough competition, but today everything went right. I got a good start and beat James Brock away from the front row and from then on I was able to hold my position."

Elsewood, driving a Ford Falcon XR8 ute, held off intense pressure from another Ford driver, Damien White, over the final lap.

White's effort ensured he claimed second place in the 2002 series over the most successful Holden competitor Gary MacDonald, who was third today and third overall.

Sydney's Warren Luff wrapped up the championship for Ford in Friday's second race.

Nevertheless, he was one of the star performers in today's race, starting at the back of the grid in 26th position and making up 20 places in five laps.

RESULTS Round 8 (final), Race 3 of 3 (5 laps):
