World of Outlaws to Visit New Facilities in 2000 By Richard Day
PLANO, TX (November 29) - Modern racing facilities that will change the face of sprint car racing dot the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series' 2000 schedule. Established Speedway Motorsports, Inc., facilities Texas Motor Speedway and Lowe's Motor Speedway broke ground on dirt tracks in August, while Bristol Motor Speedway will pour more than 8,000 cubic yards of earth on its existing surface for Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series events next season. Houston Raceway Park is building a dirt facility near its drag strip, while Portland Speedway is replacing its asphalt surface with dirt. The Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series will also visit Joplin 66 Speedway in Joplin, MO; Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, IL and Watsonville Speedway for the first time next season. "Running in conjunction with NASCAR Winston Cup events at great facilities like Texas Motor Speedway and Lowe's Motor Speedway is going to take the World of Outlaws to another level," said Johnson. "With Speedway Motorsports building new facilities to accommodate us, we'll go to a new plateau. "The new state-of-the-art facilities will seat at least 15,000. That will help us with prospective corporate sponsors, television and our whole situation." Texas Motor Speedway will host Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series events March 30-31 and October 12-14. The series will visit Lowe's Motor Speedway May 25-26 and October 5-6. Bristol Motor Speedway will cover its surface with dirt for the June 9-10 event. The fire-breathing, mudslinging sprint cars will invade Houston Raceway Park April 7-8 and October 20-21. Portland Speedway will host its first Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series event August 25-26. The world's premier sprint car racing series will open at Kings Speedway for the second consecutive season. Danny Lasoski won the "A" Feature and battled eventual champion Mark Kinser down to the season finale at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the second-closest points battle in Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series history. Las Vegas will host two events, including the season finale for the fifth straight year. The series will visit its birth place, Devil's Bowl Speedway, for the 27th Annual Spring and Winter Nationals in March and October, respectively. Knoxville Raceway will host four Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series events, including the Iowa Ethanol Classic in late June and early July and the Amoco Knoxville Nationals in mid-August. Among the five events the series will run at Eldora Speedway will be the 17th Annual Kings Royal in mid-July. Williams Grove Speedway will host three events, including the Channellock Spring Classic in May and the Williams Grove National Open in October. Lernerville Speedway will host two events, including the Ninth Annual Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup in late July. The series will run 60 events at 38 tracks in 24 states over 98 dates. WoO
