LEXUS CARRIES MOMENTUM TO BARBER -- Lexus heads to Birmingham and Barber Motorsports Park coming off its best race of the season at the Iowa Speedway last Friday. Co-drivers Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas captured Lexus' second victory of the season, combined with Ganassi Racing teammates Michael Valiante and Rob Finlay to earn a one-two finish. In addition, the manufacturer placed a third car in the top-five (Oswaldo Negri/Mark Patterson) and had five cars in the top-nine.
PRUETT ON TOP -- Scott Pruett enters this weekend's action leading the Daytona Prototype point standings by 15 points over second-place Max Angelelli with just five races remaining in the season. Pruett is aiming for his second Rolex Series crown in the past four years and his sixth major championship in eight full seasons of sports car racing since 1986. Pruett and Memo Rojas have now placed in the top two in four of the last five races.
The Northern California native became the Rolex Sports Car Series' all-time leader in wins last weekend at Iowa. Pruett now has 14 career wins in the series -- all coming in Daytona Prototype competition. In addition, Chip Ganassi Racing also is the series all-time leader in team wins with 15.
DOUBLING UP -- Finishing upfront in the competitive Rolex Series is always difficult, yet, a pair of Lexus-powered teams have consistently placed, not one, but both of their entries into the top-10. Chip Ganassi Racing placed both of its cars in the top-10 in each of the last four races, while Michael Shank Racing has placed two cars in the top-10 in four of the last five.
LEXUS TEAMS CLIMB IN POINTS CHASE - Scott Pruett isn't the only one in the midst of a championship fight in the Lexus camp. Chip Ganassi Racing has stretched its points lead to 20 in the hunt for a third team title in the last four years.
Three other Lexus-powered teams also are currently in the top-nine. The #61 AIM Autosport team (Mark Wilkins, Burt and Brian Frisselle) moved up to ninth in the points chase, while the #60 Michael Shank Racing (Patterson and Negri) moved up to eighth after a strong fifth-place showing in Iowa. The #6 Shank entry driven by Ian James and John Pew remains in seventh after a sixth straight top-10 finish.
