TRG Pontiac GTO.Rs Qualify Eighth and Ninth at Barber Motorsports Park
Birmingham, Alabama -- TRG drivers Marc Bunting and Paul Edwards qualified eighth and ninth, respectively, for tomorrow's round eight of the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series Porsche 250 Presented by Bradley Arant race at Barber Motorsports Park.
Bunting, piloting the number 65/TRG/Pontiac GTO.R, recorded his fastest time just three laps into the qualifying session with a time of 1:31.494 and an average of 90 mph.
"The car was really good and I was able to get a good time in early," Bunting said of his qualifying run around the 2.3-mile, 16-turn road course. "We're in the top ten, so we're happy with that, it being a new car and everything."
"The guys drove really well," team owner Kevin Buckler said. "I am actually surprised we're that far up. The crew has the cars handling, but we are still down on power. The guys did a really nice job getting the cars ready for qualifying. We're right there. We're right in the thick of it and we'll do our very best."
Bunting and co-driver Andy Lally, who won earlier this season at Homestead, look to record their second win, while making their fourth trip to the podium this season.
Despite not taking the green flag in the last race at Daytona, Edwards is confident in making his first start this weekend after turning the ninth quickest time in qualifying this afternoon with a 1:31.529. Edwards will drive the number 64/TRG/Pontiac GTO.R alongside co-pilot Jan Magnussen.
"We went out there and we had a loose tow-link, so it was pulling real hard to the left," Edwards said about his ninth place run. "That was pretty unsettling in the turns and hurt us a little bit in qualifying. But, I think we are still improving and the car is getting better."
"We have to run a smart conservative race tomorrow," Edwards added about the team's race strategy. "We've got to keep it steady, make no mistakes, have good pit stops and stay out of trouble. I think if we can do that, we need to be in contention for the battle at the end."
Round eight of the Grand American Rolex Series will be televised live tomorrow, Sunday, on the Speed Channel starting at 1:00 p.m. EST.
