BMW-powered FABCAR Daytona Prototype to campaign entire 2004 season

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 26, 2003) -- Steve Southard, owner of PAP-Parts, announced today that he has purchased FABCAR FDSC/07 from FABCAR Engineering, Inc. and intends to campaign the Daytona Prototype with a BMW engine for the entire 2004 Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series season.

"It's exciting to be on the ground floor of this entire program," remarked Southard of his decision to purchase a Daytona Prototype. "When you look at Grand American's view of what sports car racing should look like, and then realize that they are intending to take it down that road, it's exciting.

"I've seen sports car racing dominated by the factories in the past, and there was really no place for privateers to go and race. This program allows you to be competitive in the premier class with reasonable costs," he continued.

Southard will serve as one of the drivers of the BMW Daytona Prototype, with the team's additional drivers, as well as its sponsors, to be announced at a later date.

Southard is the owner of PAP-Parts, a German auto parts distribution company, which specializes in OEM Replacement parts for Porsche, Audi, Volkswagen and BMW automobiles.

While in recent years he has raced primarily in vintage events, Southard was a regular competitor in IMSA races in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He has competed in the Rolex 24 at Daytona three times, with his best finish coming in 1981 where he joined with Jay and Jean Kjoller for a fourth-place finish in the GTO class.

"We are very excited about this project. This will be the third different engine we have put into the Daytona Prototype," commented Dave Klym with FABCAR. "BMW has a great racing heritage and has a very competitive engine package."

"We are happy to have a BMW engine in another car in the Rolex Series. We are confident that the M5 V-8 engine will prove to be a very competitive package in the FABCAR chassis. We look forward to a close and successful relationship," remarked Tom Milner of Prototype Technology Group.

Klym says that he expects to deliver the Daytona Prototype to the team in time for the Grand American Champions Weekend, Oct. 31 - Nov. 1. "Right now we plan on running at the finale in Daytona as a test of the car, and we'll be ready to go for the entire season in 2004," noted Southard.
