Michael Shank Racing third fastest in final practice for Rolex 24 At Daytona

(Daytona Beach, FL) 27 January 06--Michael Shank Racing posted the third quickest time in the final practice session for Saturday's Rolex 24 At Daytona as Justin Wilson put the final touches on preparations with a 1:45.718-second lap time at Daytona International Speedway in the No. 60 Flight Options Lexus/Riley. Wilson will be sharing the controls to the Flight Options machine with A.J. Allmendinger, Mark Paterson, and Oswaldo Negri.

The sister Lexus/Riley in the MSR stable posted the fastest time of the final practice session as the Ohio-based squad gears up for its third try in the famed endurance challenge.

"After the way things went in testing and in the first part of this weekend, we were confident heading into this race, and being so quick in the final practice I think shows we have good reason to be," said team owner Mike Shank. "Everybody is doing a fantastic hob and the car is ready to go, so hopefully everyone gets a good night sleep tonight, because if things go as we want them to, we shouldn't get any sleep until after the checked flag falls on Sunday."

Speed is always important, but a race like the 24 elicits a particular need to pay attention to the details, and the Michael Shank Racing team spent much of Friday afternoon planning for as many contingencies as could be imagined for the twice around the clock classic. Pit strategy, driver rotation, and how to deal with a myriad different potential problems were sorted out as the drivers continued to practice driver changes and the crew did some final practice pit stops. The team has spent months preparing and planning for this event, and is hoping to see that work pay off with a good result this weekend.

"This is a big event for us," said Shank. "It's such a difficult thing to win this race, you have to have everything go right for you for twenty-four hours straight. I think the fact that there are so many superstars from all over the sport here to try and win it shows just how much people want to take this win, and hopefully we can get through the night without any issues and be in a position to race to the finish."

The race is scheduled to get underway beginning at Noon on Saturday, with Speed Channel carrying thirteen hours of live coverage including the start and finish to the event.
