Risi Competizione had an eventful second quarter of the Rolex 24 at Daytona. At 7h15, the No. 35 Ferrari 360 Modena GT was second in the GT class, third overall, when the right rear wheel came off the car, requiring a lengthy pitstop for repairs. Ralf Kelleners then worked back to sixth in class before Anthony Lazzaro took over at 8h30 and moved up one position. Johnny Mowlem took the wheel at 10h30 and moved up to third in GT at the halfway mark of the 24-hour race.

"We lost a wheel, we're not exactly sure why it came off," engineer Rick Mayer said. "We lost seven laps, otherwise we'd be P2 [second position]. Ralf stayed in the car, did a nice job, Anthony did a good job, Johnny's in the car now. They're all running laps in the night-time now that are equal to the leader's laps. We're catching back up, so we'll be in good shape. There are still 12 hours left, so anything can happen."

The No. 34 Ferri Competizione Ferrari also encountered problems. Ryan Hampton spun and hit the wall in the chicane at 11h10. The impact was enough to dislodge the starter, so the crew had to remove the undertray of the car and replace the starter. They expected to be back on track shortly after 12h.

"I just got offline in the chicane," Hampton said. "It's real, real messy out there, real slick. I just spun around and backed it into the fence."

shared setup

Risi Competizione's technical director Jeff Braun noted the car set-up developed by Ralf Kelleners and Anthony Lazzaro for the No. 35 Ferrari easily transferred to the No. 34 car, which took to the track for the first time this week.

"What's really interesting is all the work we've done on the No. 35 car since August of last year," he said. "We came up with a setup and put it on the 34 car - those four drivers have never driven the Ferrari 360 before and they all liked the setup. We hardly changed anything, so it's proven that the setup that Anthony and Ralf developed is really a good setup, it's not just particular to them. We're making progress and we're making the cars better, we're not just making them particular to one or two drivers' styles."
