Daytona Beach, Fla. (February 2, 2001) - Notes from the 39th Rolex 24 Hour race at Daytona International Speedway

Grand Am and Rolex have reached a three year agreement to name the 13 race series the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Championship. In making the announcement at Daytona International Speedway today, Roger Edmondson said this agreement, "is a major step in our development to try to market this series to people who don't really know our sport."

The Rolex 24 hour race at Daytona will kick off the championship season each year.

Live timing and scoring for the Rolex 24 is available on the internet by visiting the Grand American Road Racing web site at www.grand-am.com. Information such as car position, class, best lap time, number of laps completed and number of laps behind the leader will be available throughout the entire 24-hour race.

*****

Speedvision will broadcast live the entire Rolex 24 from Daytona International Speedway in a historic 25-hour broadcast. Other Grand Am series races to be broadcast live include races at Homestead-Miami Speedway, March 3, Phoenix International Raceway, April 21, Lime Rock, May 28, Trois Rivieres, August 5, and the season finale at Daytona, September 16.

*****

Motor Racing Network (MRN) will broadast live radio coverage of the Rolex 24 at Daytona to more than 120 of its affiliates. Live coverage begins Saturday, February 3 at 12:30 p.m. EST. Live updates will be broadcast throughout the race.

An MSN feature on Team Seattle can be found online at www.carpoint.msn.com. The site features 360 degree photos of the historic race starting grid as well as the team's garage area.

Several famous faces can be found in the garage area of Daytona International Speedway. Winston Cup drivers, Dale Earnhardt and his son, Dale Earnhardt Jr. have joined forces with Andy Pilgrim to pilot a GM Goodwrench Service Plus Corvette C5-R. It is the first time the two "E's" have competed together as teammates.

Kyle Petty will behind the wheel of No. 43 Orbit Porsche. Petty will share the driving duties with Leo Hindery, Peter Baron and Gian Luigi.

Defending Indy Racing Northern Light Series champion Buddy Lazier joins Jack Baldwin, George Robinson and Irv Hoerr in the Sports Racing Prototype class. They will share a Judd-powered Riley and Scott.

Academy Award winning actor Paul Newman will drive the No. 76 Porsche in the GT1 class. The car's number is significant as it matches the actor's age.

*****

The Judds are here. V-10 Judd engines that is. When Robinson Racing changed from their qualifying engine to their race motor, they switched from Wynonna to Naomi. Each Judd was appropriately badged with the names of each country singer on the engine's valve covers. Wynonna expired at the end of yesterday's qualifying session, but not before powering the team's Riley and Scott to a front row starting position.
