Daytona, Fla. (February 5, 2000) - With ten hours complete in the Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway, the Dyson Racing Ford-powered Riley and Scott chassis leads the field by ten laps. The defending champions of the Rolex 24 have won this race two out of the past three years, winning in 1997 and 1999. Max Papis is a new addition to the Dyson team this year, joining regular drivers, James Weaver, Elliot Forbes-Robinson and team owner Rob Dyson.

Ten laps behind the Dyson entry lies the trio of Oreca Chrysler Vipers, the same cars that dominated the FIA-GT championship in 1998. The three Vipers have operated flawlessly. The team's pit stops have been well orchestrated and performed with precision. The three cars, all circulating on the same lap, make their pit stops two laps apart.

"So far, we haven't had any major, major problems," said Tommy Archer, driver of the No. 92 Oreca Viper currently third in class and fourth overall. "There's a lot of traffic, and you've got to be real careful to thread your way through it."

The Vipers continue to run strong with the leading GTO car of David Donohue, Jean Philippe Belloc and Ni Amorin, setting their fastest race lap in the eighth hour. "Everything is going smooth for the Oreca team," said Archer. "We're running some fairly fast times, but you have to go with what the traffic bears."

While the Vipers are coiled and ready to strike should the Dyson team falter at the point, the Corvette team of Kelly Collins, Franck Freon, and Andy Pilgrim sits one lap back of the Vipers.

The Corvettes are third and fourth in class behind the Vipers.

The Cadillac team has made a strong showing for their maiden race. The No. 5 car driven by Eric van dePoele, Wayne Taylor and Max Angelli ran in the top five for the first eight hours, leading at the sixth and seventh hour. The car is currently in the garage with a swarm of mechanics working at the rear of the car.

The No. 6 Cadillac driven by Andy Wallace, Butch Leitzinger, and Frank Lagorce continues to run in the top ten, second in class, 16 laps behind the leading car of the Dyson team.

First in GTU, and eighth overall, is the No. 81 Porsche GT3R of Duncan Huisman, Uwe Alzen, Patrick Huisan, and Darren Law. The No. 81 car was entered by G & W Motorsports of Harrisonburg, VA.
