Defending Rolex 24 Champions Brumos Racing Take To The Jacksonville Streets To Promote This Weekend's Twice-Around-The-Clock Challenge

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Brumos Racing and defending Rolex 24 At Daytona winners Darren Law, David Donohue and five-time Rolex 24 champion Hurley Haywood are experts at driving around the twists and turns of Daytona's legendary 3.56-mile road course.

On Tuesday, they decided to try something different in Brumos Porsche's hometown of Jacksonville -- driving vintage Brumos Racing cars on the streets with a couple members of the media and a longtime Rolex 24 fan.

The unique media event, designed to promote this weekend's Rolex 24, created an unusual scene for motorists.

Haywood, who also calls Jacksonville his hometown, led the pack in his No.43 RSR Ecurie Escargot that he drove to victory in 1977 Rolex 24.

Law and Donohue followed in two other Brumos Racing vintage cars -- the No. 59 Porsche 914 Haywood and Peter Gregg drove in their first IMSA Camel GT Championship in 1971 and the No.59 Porsche 911S IMSA Championship car driven by Haywood and Gregg in 1972.

"That was pretty special," said Donohue, who held off Chip Ganassi Racing's Juan Pablo Montoya in the final laps to deliver Brumos Racing's Rolex 24 win last year. "I was revving it up under the underpasses. I think that gave everyone a thrill. It was fun."

"It was really cool because I could see all the people on the side of the road waving and cheering us on," said Law, who had longtime Rolex 24 ticket holder Guy Marvin, who will be attending his 36th Rolex 24 this year, in the passenger seat.

The three drivers will be joined by three-time Rolex 24 At Daytona champion Butch Leitzinger and 2008 GT class winner Raphael Matos in America's only twice-around-the-clock challenge.

Haywood will be making his 38th and final start at Daytona International Speedway in an attempt to capture an unprecedented sixth Rolex 24 watch.

"David was about two seconds ahead of me at the finish last year so I decided to stack the deck and had them join me this year," said Haywood.

Tickets for the Rolex 24 At Daytona are on sale along with the rest of Hershey's Milk & Milkshakes Speedweeks events, are available on your web-enabled phone at mobile.daytonainternationalspeedway.com, online at www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com or by calling 1-800-PITSHOP.
