Daytona24: Owen Trinkler preview

Altamonte Springs, FL/January 26, 2010 -- GRAND-AM fan favorite and champion, Owen Trinkler is ready to start the 2011 GRAND-AM Rolex series the way he ended 2010, in the winner's circle. Trinkler will be racing this weekend in the 24 Hours of Daytona that begins the 2011 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series driving the #63 Team Spencer Mazda RX-8. This will be Trinkler's first appearance at the 24 Hours of Daytona since 2007. He will also be racing this weekend at Daytona in GRAND-AM's Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge season opener, the GRAND-AM 200 in RSR's #195 Mini Cooper. Trinkler capped off the 2010 season in winning fashion as he won back-to-back races and stood on the podium for the final three races of the season to prove his RSR team was going in the right direction with the development of their Mini Cooper S fleet.

"On the Rolex side, Mazda has been the car to beat for a few seasons now," said Owen Trinkler. "I'm very thankful to Dennis Spencer and his team for bringing me in for this one, and I'd like to thank personal sponsor AXA Advisors."

In the 24 Hours of Daytona, Trinkler will be driving the Team Spencer Mazda RX-8 with co-drivers Jim Downing, David Murry, Dennis Spencer and Rich Grupp. Trinkler is hoping to mark his return to the 24 Hours of Daytona with an appearance at the winner's podium and believes that he will be able to achieve it driving with Team Spencer. RSR Motorsports team has not had any down time since the 2010 season. They have worked on the development of their entire lineup of Mini's to bring them all to the latest spec possible in preparation for the 2011 season. For the GRAND-AM 200, Trinkler will be driving the RSR's #195 Mini Cooper with Sarah Cattaneo. They were encouraged by their showing after Test Days at Daytona just a few weeks ago. They expect to keep the momentum that was built for RSR last season with a winning showing this weekend.

"For RSR I'll be sharing the car all year with Sarah Cattaneo in the #195 and I know we'll be able to put ourselves in position to fight for the lead on a consistent basis" said Trinkler.
