Enge and Charouz to test at Daytona

Tomas Enge and Jan Charouz flew to the States on the New Year's day where they will take part in the official test sessions of the Grand Am Rolex Series at Daytona International Speedway. Both will drive for the Samax Motorsport team. The test starts on Friday and finishes on Sunday and it is a preparation for the famous Daytona 24 hours.

Drivers of the BPA sport marketing will not be the only one who will drive Pontiac Riley prototypes and they will be joined by number of other drivers. Stefan Muecke, who raced for he Charouz Racing System last year in the Le Mans Series will be one of them and there will be also a strong line- up of the members of the factory Audi drivers - Allan McNish, Mike Rockenfeller and Lucas Luhr. The team will also continue to work with their permanent drivers Milka Duno and Ryan Dalziel. The last names in the line-up are Henri Zogaib and Harold Primat.

The Samax Motorsport team is going to enter two Pontiac Riley prototypes to the Daytona 24 hours. One car will be driven by McNish, Luhr, Rockenfeller and Zogaib. The line-up for the other car will be decided only after the test. Tomas Enge raced for Samax also last yea. His best result was second in the final race of the season at Salt Lake City.

The upcoming annual Daytona 24 hours race promises extraordinary quality on the grid with big names like ex-Formula 1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya, Indy Car Series stars Dario Franchitti, Dan Wheldon, Helio Castroneves or Justin Wilson and Graham Rahal from the ChampCar. It should be noted there some other stars still may join the grid because some of the team have not completed their line-ups.

Tomas Enge: "I like Samax Motorsport's car from the very beginning and I am always looking forward to every run with it. It is a powerful prototype and I enjoy racing it. We will work on preparation for the famous 24 hours Daytona race from Friday to Sunday. It is always a big challenge. I raced with Samax last year there and we finished sixth. I hope that I will be nominated also for this year and hopefully we will again fight in the front."

Jan Charouz: "I must say that it was not ideal to fly to the States right after the New Year's Eve because we were with friends in the mountains. However, it is clear that there is no room for fun in this case. I am really looking forward to the test. I know the track from last year when I raced with a Porsche of the GT class but this time I will have a chance to drive in the prestigious Daytona Prototype class. I am curious to see how the car behaves comparing to the LMP1 and LMP2 cars that I raced last year in the LMS and ALMS. I hope that I will not disappoint and the management of the Samax Motorsport will select me for the 24 hours race.

Antonín Charouz, manager of the drivers: "I am happy that Peter Baron, the boss of the Samax Motorsport team, has chosen alongside Tomas also Jan and Stefan. I perceive it also as a proof of their high class performances in the last season that were rewarded also in the British AutoSport magazine which put both drivers to their top 10 drivers of the Le Mans Series 2007. Thanks to Tomas's sterling performances from last year we also had a very good relationship with the American team. Peter Baron will be the only one who will select the drivers for the Daytona 24 hours and it would be fantastic to nominate all our drivers. However, they will not have an easy time in competition with factory Audi Sport drivers."
