Exciting CTSCC podium finish for Carter and Plumb at The Glen

Saturday’s Continental Tire 150 at The Glen, 6th round of the 2013 Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, was a very exciting event for Fall-Line Motorsports. Their three BMW teams finished 1st, 3rd and 4th. Mark Boden and Bryan Sellers took their first victory together.

The Watkins Glen race week started on Wednesday for Al Carter and Hugh Plumb who visited the Golisano Children’s Hospital in Rochester, New York as part of the 2013 B+ foundation Fighting Childhood Cancer Tour. Like in 2011 and 2012, the two drivers received a warm welcome and invited some of the families to attend the race on Saturday.

The No. 45 was fast right out of the box on promoter test day and in Thursday’s practice. Hugh Plumb showed great speed on Thursday during the two sessions and ended the day with the fastest Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge GS time of the day.

On Saturday Al Carter qualified 8th fastest which allowed him to be running with the leading cars right away at the start on Saturday afternoon. Al Carter had an outstanding stint passing cars and running as high as third before handing the No. 45 Eagle B+ BMW to Hugh Plumb for the rest of the event that was raced under difficult weather conditions.

Hugh Plumb replaced Al Carter and the very experienced GRAND-AM racer from Unionville, Pennsylvania was determined to take his M3 to the top of the leader board. After the pit stop Hugh was outside the top 20 and started to pass car after car. He ran as high as second during his stint.

The No. 45 Eagle B+ BMW was on a different strategy than the No. 46 and No. 48 cars and in order to make the race without any additional stops other than for a driver change and top-off of fuel, they needed an extensive caution period and/or the skies to open up. They got both. Just before the final caution, Hugh was able to pit and made the decision to switch to rain tires as the skies opened up. The pits were closed shortly after Hugh's stop as the track went full course caution due to a number of cars off-track and in the barriers.

At the restart since Plumb was the first car on rain tires, and with only one lap of green flag racing to go, Hugh charged to the front and passed two cars including teammate Charles Espenlaub and was closing on his brother Matt Plumb at the checkered but could not pass him. Had there been one more lap in the race, the No. 45 car would have most likely taken the victory.

The Continental Tire 150 will be broadcast on Speed TV next Sunday at 4:00 PM ET. The next CTSCC event is scheduled for July 25-26 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

This week-end was the first race for Fall-Line Motorsports in the GRAND-AM Rolex Series. The team entered an Audi R8 in the GT class of the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen. The No. 46 drivers were Al Carter, Charles Espenlaub and Charlie Putman. For their first outing, Fall-Line Motorsports did a very good job. The No. 46 B+ Foundation / Jetset Magazine / Fall-Line Audi R8 finished the grueling six hour endurance race in 14th place.
