Frisselles join Michael Shank Racing
(Columbus, OH) 3 August 06--Team owner Mike Shank announced today that Burt and Brian Frisselle will race the No. 6 Playboy Racing/Mears Motor Coach Lexus Riley in the final three rounds of Rolex Sports Car Series competition.
The young brother driving duo, who have who have been co-driving together in the Daytona Prototype class since 2005, will race alternate rounds with the team.
Burt will share the car with Mike Borkowski in the Crown Royal 200 at the Glen and in the season-ending Discount Tire Sunchaser event, as Brian will put his previous formula car experience at the track to use for the Rolex Series' debut at Infineon co-driving with Borkowski.
The run will not be the first with MSR for Burt, who took a podium with the team in his very first Rolex Sports Car Series start at Homestead in March, 2004, co-driving with Oswaldo Negri in a Lexus-Doran combination. Burt's last Rolex podium came with Michael Shank Racing in August of 2004 at the Watkins Glen 200 event after making a late-race charge in the rain.
"Having had Burt run with us in 2004, we've obviously been keeping an eye on him and Brian ever since, and we are glad we get to have them back with us," said Shank. "We have some good momentum going with both team cars, and there is no reason to think that we can't keep that going to close out the season with Burt and Brian in the Playboy Racing car."
The Frisselles, who are coming off a strong test with SunTrust Racing, are looking to make the most of this new opportunity as a new chapter in their relationship with the team opens up.
"It's really exciting for me to come back and race for Mike and Playboy Racing," said Burt. "They have shown some impressive consistency and competitiveness and I am looking forward to running with them again because there are a lot of good guys and familiar faces for me on the team, and I think that we should be very competitive in these last three races."
The Frisselles made their GT class debut together last weekend at Barber Motorsports Park, scoring a fifth-place finish with Pacific Coast Motorsports, and Brian is relishing the chance to drive yet another new engine/chassis package and return to Daytona Prototype competition in a car that has three consecutive top-ten finishes heading into the final three races.
"I am looking forward to racing the Lexus/Riley combination and keep growing the scope of experience I have in the Rolex series," said Brian. "I have heard a lot about how good this team is from Burt, and have seen that week in and week out racing against them, so I am glad to get the chance to race with them at Infineon."
The Frisselle duo will be stepping in for Playboy Racing driver Tommy Constantine, who has impressed right from his debut Daytona Prototype run in the rain at Watkins Glen. Constantine, who also competes full-time in the Grand Am Cup Series, wanted to get some DP experience under his belt in preparation for a full-time run in 2007 while still remaining eligible for the MESCO Building for the Future Rookie of the Year award next season.
"Tommy did a great job for us and I think he's going to be very competitive again next season," said Shank. "When Mike (Borkowski) took the car over from Tommy midway through the race at Barber, he was already up to sixth, and Tommy's performance put us in a position to get the result that we did. He's smart to get all this experience and still be eligible for the Rookie award next year."
The Crown Royal 200 will run in conjunction with the NASCAR Nextel Cup event, with a Thursday-Friday schedule setting the race start for 6:30 Friday evening.
