Dyson, Wallace Team in #16 Porsche Crawford for Grand Prix of Miami
HMS and CRC have past success at Homestead-Miami Speedway
Denver, NC (March 20, 2007) ... When the Grand-Am Rolex Series convenes at the Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend for the running of the Grand Prix of Miami, two familiar faces will be back in the garage area. Andy Wallace and Chris Dyson will co-drive the #16 Howard Motorsports Thetford / Norcold Porsche Crawford at the 2.3 mile course. Wallace replaces Rob Dyson, who was scheduled to compete in the event but has bowed out due to a business conflict.
Andy Wallace captured both Grand-Am Rolex series races at the Homestead-Miami Speedway in 2004 driving the #2 Howard Motorsports Pontiac Crawford. In addition, the last time Wallace and Dyson co-drove in the Rolex Series was at Virginia International Raceway in 2003. The duo piloted the SSC2K to the first win for Crawford in the Rolex Series. Even though they have been teammates at Howard Motorsports, this weekend will be the first time Wallace and Dyson have co-driven the Crawford DP03 in the Rolex Series in over four years.
Plus, Crawford Race Cars has won three Rolex Series races at Homestead including last year when the Alex Job Racing Ruby Tuesday Porsche Crawford took the checkered flag. The #23 Porsche Crawford led a contingent of four Crawford Race Cars who finished in the top five. The Cheever Porsche Crawford placed second, followed by the Finley #19 and #5 Ford Crawfords in fourth and fifth. Add to those stats the fact that the #16 Thetford / Norcold Crawford earned their best finish of the 2006 season (7th) in the Grand Prix of Miami.
"I'm fairly optimistic about our chances at Homestead," Chris Dyson commented. "We had a very encouraging test at the track in late February. We are still learning more about the chassis with the Porsche installation, but everything is very positive."
"Guy Smith and I had a very strong race at Homestead last year, so I think we should be able to run strongly there this weekend," Dyson continued. "Everyone at Howard Motorsports has been working very hard since Daytona. We want to make every race count this year."
"I really like the Homestead-Miami Speedway, and look forward to the opportunity to drive again with Chris (Dyson)", Wallace stated. "Although we have teamed together in the ALMS for years, this will be a reunion of sorts in the Rolex Series Porsche Crawford DP03. It's been a long time since we took the SSC2K to victory at VIR, and with the success that the Crawford DP03 has at Homestead, I'm really looking forward to a great weekend. The Howard Motorsports Team has really been working hard to provide us a fast car, and this weekend will be another great opportunity to show the Rolex Series just how much the Crawford chassis likes Homestead. This is always a very competitive race, and Chris and I look forward to the challenge. I think this is fantastic to have this opportunity."
"We are very excited to have the #16 Dyson Thetford / Norcold Porsche Crawford at Homestead this weekend," Rick Howard, President of Howard Motorsports stated. "It's great to see the excitement level of Max and Jan Crawford when their cars compete in the Grand-Am Rolex Series. The father-son team of Rob and Chris Dyson bring a tremendous amount of history and excitement to our sport and series. To have their program associated with Howard Motorsports has given everyone an increased sense of pride and motivation. We're sorry Rob can't join us this weekend, but with the past success of Andy Wallace, the Dyson team, and Crawford Race Cars at the Homestead-Miami Speedway, everyone has high hopes for a strong performance this weekend."
The Grand Prix of Miami is set for a 2 PM ET green flag on Saturday, March 24th.
