TRG at Mexico City
Petaluma, Ca. (March 20, 2007) - TRG returns to one of its favorite tracks this weekend, Homestead-Miami Speedway. The South Florida track has been kind to TRG; the team has won there with two marques of racecars the past two consecutive years, and in seven trips to Homestead, the team has always had either a win or podium finish. In 2005, teammates Marc Bunting and Andy Lally won with a Porsche 996 Cup car, en route to the team championship. In 2006, Kelly Collins and Paul Edwards teamed to win at Homestead in a Pontiac GTO.R, en route to TRG sweeping the team, drivers' and manufacturer's championships.
Team owner Kevin Buckler said, "We've got a strong history as a team here at Homestead. It is a bit tricky here as we are working with the benefits of a relatively fast track which should give us a slight advantage but the tight twisty sections and the off camber hard braking are not great for the rear engine design. The "almost flat" banking throws in another element so a smart setup is the name of the game. R.J. and Andy have both had success here and our team has always done well at Homestead. I am really looking forward to this event.
In the #67 car, TRG will welcome Scott Tucker and Ed Zabinksi to the team. Zabinski has plentiful sportscar racing experience, having competed in IMSA Supercars, ALMS, Grand-Am, SCCA and IMSA Lites races since the late 1980's. Additionally, he's won 7 club racing championships over the years, and raced a Lola B98/10 LMP1 prototype in the American Le Mans Series from 1998-2000. Tucker is a regular competitor in the Ferrari Challenge series and the IMSA Lites and IMSA Cup Series, and makes his Grand-Am debut at Homestead.
Buckler said, "I'm excited to have Scott and Ed join the team. Scott's a very dedicated and talented driver, and tested with us several weeks ago at Sebring. He ran a ton of races last year, and was just racing at Homestead last week. which is fantastic. He is really dedicated to stair stepping his way up through the professional racing ranks and has a very professional approach and demeanor. Ed has been around a long while, and I think he'll mesh well with the team. He's got experience driving all kinds of cars, and as a coach and mentor in the Infinity Pro Series and in sportscars, he's shown an ability to identify talented drivers. I expect Ed and Scott to be a strong duo at Homestead."
Teammates Andy Lally and R.J. Valentine sit 10th in the driver's championship at present, and will look to improve on their finishes of 17th at Daytona ("DP" troubles) and 8th at Mexico City to climb back into the points chase.
