Skip Barber trained Greg Ray has found a new home with Kelley Racing for 2002 as he looks to become the first-ever two-time Indy Racing League champion, but it is a deal that will sideline his thoughts of driving stock cars– at least for now.

Ray was seriously considering a heavy NASCAR Busch Grand National schedule back in October when he was still looking for a 2002 ride, but his new multi-year deal with Kelley was designed with an exclusivity clause that will keep him out of the tin tops.

"It is a very exclusive contract," Ray said. "I had spoken with (team owner) Tom (Kelley) and (general manager) Jim (Freudenberg) and they realize that the things that have made them successful is that they put every ounce of energy they have into the team. I look forward to doing that and helping the team reach all of its goals this year and for years to come."

However, Ray will be allowed one dalliance outside of the IRL machines before the season starts. Ray said Tuesday that he will be running in the 24 Hours of Daytona in the Ferrari 333SP of Giuseppe Risi.

The Risi Ferrari is an older car, but one that has been very competitive and has been in the hands of some extremely talented drivers in recent years. New Toyota Formula 1 shoe Allan McNish joined Ralf Kelleners, Eric Van der Poele and David Brabham last year to qualify the car third at Daytona, and the car qualified second and ran up front early on in 2000.

"We’re going to roll the old girl out of the barn and go racing," Ray said. "It’s been a while since I’ve done any road racing and I’m looking forward to it very much."
