INDIANAPOLIS, IN, AUGUST 16, 2005 - After an impressive debut in the Porsche 250 presented by Bradley Arant at Barber Motorsports Park two races ago, Jonathan Cochet will once again get behind the wheel of a Daytona Prototype for the Emco Gears Classic at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on August 26 - 27. Cochet will rejoin join Tuttle Team Racing / SAMAX Motorsport in the No. 7 Pontiac Riley to build upon the success of their first outing together.
"We've seen in recent races that a driver pairing like Jonathan Cochet and Brian Tuttle has the potential for podium finishes if not outright victory in the Daytona Prototype class", says Peter Baron, SAMAX Motorsport owner. "With a clean race and good strategy, I think we can achieve this kind of result at Mid-Ohio, particularly given Jonathan's speed and ability to quickly learn new circuits as he demonstrated at Barber Motorsports Park."
Cochet, who competed in the Silverstone round of the Le Mans Endurance Series in a Courage LMP1 prototype this past weekend, grabbed the attention of the paddock in his first outing in the Rolex Sports Car Series. Having never sat in a Daytona Prototype before the race weekend at Barber Motorsports Park, Cochet posted top-four lap times in each of the four practice sessions, was fastest overall in the pre-race warm up, and climbed his way from ninth to second place in his first race stint. A one-minute penalty for contact while overtaking, plus power steering problems eventually produced a twelfth place finish with co-driver and car owner, Brian Tuttle. None-the-less, the impressive showing by Peter Baron's young team was one of the weekend's highlights.
"I am really excited to race again with Brian and the team at Mid-Ohio," says Cochet. "I hear that Mid-Ohio is a similar circuit to Barber, with a lot of tight corners and elevation changes. Since we did so well on this kind of track together last time, I hope I can develop more speed in the car sooner now that I understand its limits. This time I'll only have to learn the track!"
