JOHANSSON EQUAL TO THE TASK IN LAGUNA SECA QUALIFYING

MONTEREY, Calif. (April 30, 2005) -- New Century Mortgage Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates driver Stefan Johansson took the honors for qualifying the team's 500hp Daytona Prototype on an overcast Monterey afternoon today, and equaled the team's best starting position of the Rolex Sports Car Series season by clocking in fourth with a 1:24.719 (95.100 mph) tour of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

The lap was Johansson's eighth and final of the 15 minute qualifier, and was good enough to earn the no.02 New Century Mortgage Lexus-Riley a starting spot alongside teammates Luis Diaz and Scott Pruett (no.01 CompUSA Lexus-Riley) to make it an all-Ganassi second row for tomorrow's Road & Track 250.

"We took a gamble in qualifying the car on scuffed tires," said Johansson, who will start tomorrow's 112-lap event behind the wheel before turning the car over to co-driver Cort Wagner. "The gamble didn't pay off unfortunately because the scuffed tires disrupted the balance of the car and created a ton of understeer. I think we'll be okay for the race tomorrow. At least I won't have to worry about the guy starting next to me."

Chip Ganassi Racing teammates Luis Diaz and Scott Pruett qualified third in the no.01 CompUSA Lexus-Riley with a top time of 1:24.649 (95.179 mph).

Fans of New Century Mortgage Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates can catch the no.02 New Century Mortgage Lexus-Riley in action at the Road & Track 250 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca tomorrow at 3:00 pm ET (LIVE, SPEED Channel).
