SunTrust Racing Makes Intense Run to the Finale

Lexington, Ohio (August 3, 2004) - The 2004 Grand American Road Racing Series season is officially half completed, with six races now recorded in the history books and another six exciting races still to write. For the many Grand-Am teams and drivers, this means an intense run to the finale between now and the end of October.

The SunTrust Racing team of Wayne Taylor and Max Angelelli has achieved success so far this season with two victories, one second place finish and two additional top-five finishes. They trail the points-leading CompUSA-Ganassi team of Scott Pruett and Max Papis by only eleven points.

"We're very happy with our results so far this year," said team owner/driver Wayne Taylor. "Considering this program was put together in about 90 days, I never felt that in the first year we would be racing for a championship. Obviously, Bill Riley and the Riley Tech guys have done an outstanding job. Of course, my teammate Max has made life a lot easier for me too."

The SunTrust Racing driver pairing will change for this weekend's EMCO Gears Mid-Ohio Road Racing Classic, to be run on Saturday, August 7th at 5:30 p.m. The 250-mile sprint race will team Taylor with SunTrust Racing endurance co-driver Emmanuel Collard, due to a GM/Cadillac commitment for regular driver Max Angelelli. Collard previously co-drove with Taylor and Angelelli at the Rolex 24 at Daytona in January and the 6 Heueres du Circuit Mont-Tremblant in Quebec, Canada in May.

"It is a very good car and I like the series very much," said the Frenchman Collard. "The racing is a cross between GT and sports cars. The cars are nice to drive and they all have the same package so racing is very close. There are big battles with many good drivers and it's very interesting. I think for the future it is a very good series."

Both Taylor and Collard previously drove at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Circuit in 2001, while teammates on the Cadillac ALMS sports car team. Although neither has tested here since, Max has shared some knowledge from his recent Cadillac CTS race about the slightly modified circuit.

"Mid-Ohio is a tough, technical track," said Taylor. "The driver pairing change will add some different nuances to the weekend, but although we will miss Max, Manu is just as capable. Max raced here in June and has told the team about some of the differences in the corners and the track surface."

"I remember that Mid-Ohio is a small track where it is difficult to overtake," added Collard. "There will no doubt be good, tight racing. We will do our best to get good results for SunTrust Racing."

The SunTrust Racing Pontiac Riley Mk.11 will continue to be put to the test as its capable pilots attempt to write history in the battle to the finale.
