TRG Pontiac GTO.Rs Qualify Second and Eighth in GT at Mid-Ohio

Lexington, Ohio -- The TRG Pontiac GTO.Rs, qualified by Ron Fellows and Marc Bunting, will start second and eighth in tomorrow's running of the Grand AmericanRolexSeriesEMCO Gears Mid-Ohio Road Racing Classic. In a dash to get the number 64/TRG/Pontiac GTO.R to the track for qualifying, the TRG crew were made it just in time to complete one flying lap -- but that is all the Canadian needed to put it on the front row. Fellows with no time to get heat in the tires turned a time of 1:28.422 and an average speed of 92 mph to post the best qualifying effort in the short history of the GTO.R program. The qualifying session lasted only four laps due to a black flag.

"We got the car out kind of late," said Fellows. "On my first lap out the black flag came out and stopped the session. My engineer came on the radio and said there was one minute remaining, I had one lap. I was able to get a gap in the traffic and post a pretty good time. I think if I had the opportunity to warm-up the tires we would had a few more tenths. I will start the car and turn it over to Paul Edwards. The seating position is not ideal, so it is easier to get me out of the car than stuff me back in."

In the companion number 65/TRG/Pontiac GTO.R, Marc Bunting qualified eighth with a time of 1:29.336. The Baltimore resident was fighting the traffic and an ill handling car."I thought I was in a good position after the black flag to get a clean lap, but it didn't work out," said Bunting. "The car was not great, it was real loose. Something had changed since practice earlier this afternoon. The time was only a couple of tenths faster on new tires, we left a lot of time out there on the track. We have some work to do in the warm-up, I am sure the guys will get it worked out."

"The team had a short time to get some major suspension tuning done on the 64 car, but Ron was able to pick us up on the track," said Kevin Buckler, team owner. "He only had one lap to put in a time, like a real pro he delivered. Marc had a nice run, a fourth row starting position for he and Andy Lally will put them in the heart of the fight."

Round ten of the Grand American Rolex Series will be run at Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course tomorrow and will be televised the next day starting at 12:00 p.m. EST on the Speed Channel.
