Sellers Puts No. 68 TRG Porsche on Pole for Supercar Life 250 at New Jersey
No. 68 Porsche MILLVILLE, N.J. - A TRG Porsche will be starting on the pole for Sunday's inaugural race at New Jersey Motorsports Park's Thunderbolt Raceway. Bryan Sellers placed the No. 68 CRG/Colliers International/TRG Porsche GT3 on the pole position for the Supercar Life 250 with a lap at 1:19.024.
"I think, especially for the 68 car, it's a huge feat, because we've kind of had some bad luck," Sellers said. "We've had some silly mistakes that shouldn't have happened, and it was nobody's fault, they just happened. Days like today show that all the work is worth it. It makes everybody like RJ (Valentine), (TRG owner) Kevin (Buckler), and the crew happy, and especially our sponsors, from F1 Boston to CRG to Colliers International, it really makes everybody's involvement worthwhile. I'm glad we could finally show what the 68 car is capable of. It makes me feel good to be a part of it."
Sellers will co-drive the No. 68 machine in Sunday's race with RJ Valentine, who has an ownership stake in New Jersey Motorsports Park. For the first time this weekend, the No. 68 machine is carrying sponsorship from Colliers International, which makes the pole-winning performance all the more special.
"It's really awesome," said TRG owner Kevin Buckler. "Congratulations to the (No.) 68 guys, with RJ Valentine and Bryan Sellers. It's our first pole at this circuit, it's RJ's home track, and being a partner here, I'm glad we could deliver for him. Bryan drove the wheels off the thing. RJ has been doing great all weekend. We're looking forward to a great race.
"RJ has a long history of mentoring and helping young drivers, and he's continuing that tradition this weekend by supporting (TRG KONI Challenge Series driver) Scott Schroeder's new sponsor, Colliers International, in the Rolex Series race,"
TRG is fielding a series-leading four entries in the Supercar Life 250. Starting 14th on the GT grid in the No. 67 Johnnie-O Clothing/Sirius Satellite Radio Porsche GT3 will be top MESCO Building for the Future Rookie of the Year contender Tim George Jr. George posted a best lap at 1:21.171 (99.789 mph) in the car he is sharing with three-time Rolex Series champion Andy Lally.
"It's definitely a difficult track," George said. "It's just tough, but I felt like I did decent. Bryan Sellers is on pole and I was the second-quickest TRG car, which is great, because I wasn't running the best of all the other TRG cars throughout the practice, so I stepped it up here in qualifying. I learned a couple little tricks from following some guys around and I feel like we have a decent car for the race."
Rookie Ted Ballou, who is a contender for not only Rookie of the Year honors but also the Bob Akin Award for the top sportsman driver in the GT class, will start 16th aboard the No. 66 Mitchell Rubber/TRG Porsche GT3. Ballou turned in a best lap time at 1:21.471 (99.422 mph). He will co-drive the No. 66 entry with Spencer Pumpelly.
"We had a pretty good car," said Ballou. "I was getting pretty aggressive there in the beginning and put in a decent lap. I was really pushing on the next lap and ended up going off, which is disappointing, but we'll have an okay starting position. We'll have to work our way up through the field. I think Spencer and I are up for it."
Making just his second Rolex Series start of the season in the No. 65 Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing/Total R Insulation Solutions Porsche GT3 for TRG/Riegel Autosport is John Potter, who will start 17th. Potter turned a best lap at 1:21.953 (98.837 mph) in the car he is sharing with 2005 Rolex Series GT champion Craig Stanton.
"Qualifying went all right," Potter said. "I went a little bit faster than this morning, and I'm getting faster all the time. I made a couple mistakes, did a few things right, and hopefully I'll learn from them and be a little faster for tomorrow."
