CITGO Racing Team Hoping for Bright Future in "Valley of the Sun"

Wallace, Duno honoring CITGO and Muscular Dystrophy Association at Phoenix 250

Denver, NC (September 6, 2005) ... The #2 CITGO Racing Team, co-driven by Andy Wallace and Milka Duno, will be hoping for a bright future when they travel to the Phoenix International Raceway this weekend for the Phoenix 250 Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series event. The Phoenix 250 will also mark the fourth consecutive race where the CITGO Pontiac Crawford will compete with a special paint scheme honoring the twenty year association of CITGO with the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The talented duo of Wallace and Duno will be seeking their second victory of the 2005 Rolex Series season in Phoenix this weekend. In May, Wallace and Duno teamed with Jan Lammers to win the 6 Heures du Circuit Mont-Tremblant in Quebec, Canada. In less than two complete seasons of Rolex Series competition, the CITGO Racing Team has earned three wins and eight podium (top three) finishes.

The Phoenix 250 will also be the first Rolex Series race with only the Daytona Prototype cars competing. Previously, both the DPs and the GT cars have competed in the same event.

"The Phoenix course is a short one, only a little over 1.5-miles total, with tight corners in the road course and a fast, high-speed turn on the banking," Wallace commented. "The CITGO Pontiac Crawford is a very aerodynamic car that really does great on the banking of the oval. Plus, our car is so good under braking. That will work to our advantage as well. I'm excited about this weekend and our chances at Phoenix."

"I always look forward to racing at night at Phoenix International Raceway," Duno stated. "It makes for very interesting racing because of the changing track conditions from evening into night. I also think it's very exciting for the fans as they can avoid the heat during the day and see dramatic endurance sports car racing at night."

"When we came into this race last year, we were just off our first career win at Homestead-Miami Speedway and we had a lot of momentum and energy," Duno continued. "Unfortunately, I was clipped by a GT car which affected our results. Hopefully, this year we'll have some good luck. This will be the last race of the year where the #2 CITGO Pontiac Crawford will be promoting CITGO's longstanding relationship with the Muscular Dystrophy Association. With the MDA's headquarters being in Tucson (AZ), it would be nice to deliver a podium for them at Phoenix." Incidentally, Duno will be visiting the national MDA headquarters in Tucson on Monday, September 12th to tape public service announcements as a spokesperson for MDA.

The Phoenix 250 will be the 11th of fourteen races on the Grand American Rolex Series schedule for 2005. Practice and qualifying will be held on Thursday and Friday, September 8th and 9th. The 250-mile race is set for a 7 PM ET start on Saturday, September 10th. Speed Channel will provide tape-delayed coverage of the event beginning at 4 PM ET on Sunday, September 11th.
