By winning Saturday’s Grand-Am Continental Tires Sports Car Challenge at Lime Rock Park, Rum Bum Racing’s Matt Plumb and Nick Longhi recorded their fifth victory of the year and Plumb captured the Grand Sport division drivers’ championship. Plumb finished 2.234 seconds ahead of Bryan Sellers’ Fall-Line Motorsports BMW M3.

Longhi and Plumb went into the race seven points behind BGB Motorsports’ David Empringham and John Farano. But a collision between Empringham and John Edwards with less than five minutes to go in the event cost Empringham any chance he may have had at winning the championship.

“We all know we had to win,” explained Plumb. “That was the ultimate goal. Lime Rock is a good track for us. We had ultimate focus of winning this race. And then it was up to (Empringham and Farano) to either get the job done or not. The pressure was on me. I had to keep from screwing it up because the car was perfect.”

Longhi could have shared the championship with Plumb, but Longhi only spent 25 minutes behind the wheel of the winning Porsche. Grand-Am rules require each driver to drive for 30 minutes to score points.

Scott Maxwell rounded out the podium, crossing the finishing line third behind the wheel of the Multimatic Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage.
