Scottish endurance star Allan McNish held the lead Saturday after two hours of the 39th running of the Rolex 24 At Daytona. Driving the Risi Competizione Ferrari 333SP in a light drizzle, McNish led the Dyson Riley & Scott Ford of Butch Leitzinger, the InterSport Racing Judd Lola of 17-year-old Clint Field, Rob Dyson in his second Ford, the Champion Porsche of four-time Rolex 24 winner Bob Wollek, and the R&S Judd of George Robinson.
Johnny O’Connell held the lead in GTS in a Corvette, followed by the Porsche of Klaus Bytzek, Calum Lockie in a Marcos Mantera, and seven-time NASCAR Winston Cup champion Dale Earnhardt in a Corvette.
Other class leaders were Dennis Spencer in SRP II,Terry Borcheller in GT, and David Amick in American GT.
The hour’s lone incident came when Sim Penton cut a tire in the Gwen Racing Camaro and hit the wall exiting two turn. He was uninjured in the incident.
