Pole sitters Bill Auberlen and Justin Marks drove their Turner Motorsports BMW M3 to victory in the caution-filled GrandAm Cup Series Chemung Canal Trust 200 at Watkins Glen International. Auberlen and Marks, who lead 32 of 56 laps, now have two wins this season. The race featured six cautions for 24 laps.
"It's always an advantage to start on the pole and I worked real hard in qualifying to put a lap together that would start us in first place," said Marks. "I tried real hard the first couple laps and after the restarts to try to get the biggest lead that I could so that I could conserve after that. Our car was real consistent today. No real big moments for me."
"This is a tribute to the guys at Turner," added Auberlen. "I don't think we've turned one screw on this car all weekend. It's been pretty much great all weekend."
The Mustang of Scott Maxwell and David Empringham finished second, followed by Greg Wilkins and Dave Lacey, in the Doncaster Racing Porsche.
In Sport Touring, Andy Lally and Jim Holtom took class honors behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Cobalt. A second Cobalt driven by Tom Lepper and Bo Roach came home second. Tony Nuzzo and Steve Pattee rounded out the top- three in a Mini Cooper.
"This is a good track for the Cobalt," said Lally. "For them to come home one-two, I think, is a huge achievement. It's a pleasure for me to join this team."
