Defending Sports Touring II champion Will Nonnamaker goes head to head with past champion in search of his third crown.
North Canton, OH -- After nine races and twenty five hours of on track racing, Grand Am Cup Sports Touring II Defending Champion Will Nonnamaker will try to score his third professional Championship. In his bid for the title, he will need to outlast 1999 STII Champion Bob Beede in a six hour duel of speed on the high banks of Daytona.
"After clinching the Manufacturer's title for Acura at Mont Tremblant, our team's focus now turns to defending our Triple Crown Championship," commented Nonnamaker. "This is a six hour race coming up, the longest of our season, and the will undoubtedly add some tension to the Championship drama. Six hours at Daytona will definitely be a test of the Acura reliability."
Will Nonnamaker shares the lead in the STII Driver's Championship with his brother and co-driver, Wayne Nonnamaker. For the finale at Daytona, they will be teamed up in the #41 King Motorsports Acura Integra from the HRPWorld.com stables. The duo hold a six point lead over Bob Beede and need a third place finish to ensure their Championship, even if Beede wins the race. It would be Will's third title and Wayne's second.
"It is fitting that we are in a championship battle with another Acura driver," added Wayne Nonnamaker referring to Beede's ride in the #27 Acura Integra. "Endurance racing ideally suits Acura's established reputation for reliability and sustainable speed. I am looking forward to a chance to race for six hours on the banks of Daytona."
For the race the team has went through their fleet of HRPWorld.com Acuras in detail to ensure the reliability of the cars.
"You can never be sure of anything, but we have looked these Integras over from top to bottom and replaced anything we were concerned about," commented crewmember Trevor Whipple. "This is a six hour race, and with the way these Grand Am Cup races are, I am sure it will be a six hour sprint race."
The #41 King Motorsports Acura Integra is in first in the team points and the #42 King Motorsports Acura Integra is third in the Team Championship. A second place by the #41 ensures the HRPWorld.com effort the Team Championship.
Team driver Tony Nuzzo enters the season finale fourth in points. This is a very remarkable accomplishment for the Rookie driver in his first full year of professional racing. There isn't a rookie of the year honor in the Grand Am Cup, but as the highest standing rookie in the STII class, Nuzzo would surely qualify for the honor. Additional drivers for the weekend include Joe Nonnamaker, Michiel Schuitemaker, Don Velcio and John Wymore.
