TheRaceSite.com Racing and Stanton 2004 Grand Am Cup Grand Sport Champions

Fontana, CA - TheRaceSite.com racing clinched their fourth consecutive Triple Crown Championship in Grand Am Cup competition this past weekend. TheRaceSite.com driver Craig Stanton also took his share of the trophies after winning the highly pursued driver championship in a tie breaker.

Stanton has been in a points battle with Terry Borcheller since Borcheller left TheRaceSite.com Racing after the first three races. Borcheller led Stanton by seven points heading into the Barber race. Stanton then closed the gap with his first place finish at Barber to four points. Witnessing the lead changes of the Lexus 250 it was hard to tell who would take the driver trophy after the California race.

Stanton led off the race after taking the pole during qualifying. The No. 11 Powell Motorsports Cadillac took the lead with only ten laps down, however, the lead would not be held for long. The No. 91 Porsche and No. 11 Cadillac made contact causing the No. 11 car to pit with extensive damage. TheRaceSite.com No. 43 car regained the lead with twenty-four laps down.

David Murry jumped behind the wheel of the TheRaceSite.com Porsche 996 after sixty one laps to help the team's stronghold on a podium finish. With a seven lap lead over the #11 of Borcheller, it seemed as if the Driver's title was well within the grasp of the team. However with less than 30 minutes remaining, Murry noticed a lack of power. After pitting for repairs, it was discovered that a motor mount had broken and the motor was dragging on the ground.

"It was organized chaos in the pits," commented Joe Nonnamaker. "The whole team jumped into action. We got a motor mount and put it on the car. Murry rolled out of the pits with two laps remaining in the race and that was exactly the number of laps we needed in order to capture the Championship for Stanton."

The drama continued as Murry came around for the white flag. Murry needed one more lap to capture the title, but the overall leader was slowly catching the #43 TheRaceSite.com Racing Porsche. Murry made it to the finish line 200 yards ahead of the overall leader, allowing him to complete another lap which meant there were enough cars in between the #43 and the #11 for Stanton to win the Championship.

"Craig drove an amazing season this year," added Wayne Nonnamaker. "If we had written this script for a movie, it would be deemed too unbelievable. Craig impressed me throughout the entire season. Winning six races in a ten race season is amazing."

This finish placed Stanton in a tie with Borcheller for the driver's championship. The championship came down to the number of first place finishes for the drivers. Borcheller's only wins for the season came during the first three races of the year while being paired with Stanton. Borcheller then moved to the Powell team and Stanton went on to have three more victories with TheRaceSite.com Porsches.

In their best Grand Am Cup finish of the year drivers Will and Wayne Nonnamaker took their spot on the podium and clinched the Grand Sport class team championship trophy. The No. 44 car took second place during this past weekend's race at California Speedway. After many lead changes the No. 44 was able to maintain a top five position for the majority of the race. Will gained ground early in the race while Wayne jumped in to battle it out during the final laps.

"We got second place today, but it no one seemed to care when I got out of the car, including myself," added Wayne Nonnamaker. "It is a great feeling to finish on the podium in this series, but all I could think about was the Championship."

TheRaceSite.com Racing took a total of six wins this season and twelve top five finishes. The Porsche 996's were solid next to the competition as were the team's drivers.

"This was a really great race with everyone hitting it hard at the end. So many things happened that could have been detrimental to several teams but we hung in there and I am glad we did. This season has been very challenging and we were determined to make another championship season," stated Will Nonnamaker.

TheRaceSite.com racing defends their Grand-Am Cup Grand Sport title with support from HRPworld.com, HAWK Performance, Kempthorn Auto Mall, SpeedSource, SpeedGroup International, TheRaceMarket.com, North Jersey Dermatology Center, Buddy Stubbs' Harley Davidson, Grassroots Motorsports Magazine and 9 Magazine.
