SCC: Krohn, Taylor team up for Laguna Seca race

Tracy Krohn and Wayne Taylor to Team in Koni Challenge GS Race at Laguna Seca

Grand-Am team owners Tracy Krohn and Wayne Taylor are competitors on the track in the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series. Although they both own and drive Pontiac Rileys, they usually share no more than victory circle appearances with different teams. Tracy owns the two-car Krohn Racing No. 75 and No. 76 Pontiac Rileys in the Daytona Prototype class. Wayne owns Wayne Taylor Racing's No. 10 SunTrust Pontiac Riley, also in the Prototype class.

This weekend the two team owner/drivers will combine talents and co-drive in the Koni Challenge Grand Sports race on Sunday morning, May 20th at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca circuit.

Krohn and Taylor will team to drive the No. 78 Kinetic Motorsports-entered BMW M-3 in the 400K/112-lap/2-1/2 hour race. It will be Krohn's second Koni Challenge race this season (the first was at Daytona International Speedway) and Taylor's first.

Krohn will be racing double-duty, competing in both the Koni Challenge GS race and the Prototype race. Nic J0x00f6nsson, Krohn's Prototype teammate, will be pulling triple duty and flying between Monterey and Salt Lake City. He will drive the No. 61 Risi Competizione Ferrari 430 GT in the ALMS race at Miller Motorsports Park in Salt Lake City on Saturday evening, then the No. 79 Kinetic Motorsports BMW M3 in the Koni Challenge GS and the No. 76 Krohn Racing Prototype race, both on Sunday at Laguna Seca. Shawn Price will co-drive with J0x00f6nsson, who is co-owner of Kinetic Motorsports, in the Koni GS race.

What do you think about driving with Tracy in the Koni Challenge GS at Laguna Seca?

"Firstly, I have to thank Tracy. He'd actually offered the ride this weekend to my son, Ricky. Unfortunately, he had a hernia operation on Friday, which is going to take him out of the seat of a race car at least for the next 2-3 weeks. I felt that the least I could do for Tracy for having the faith in Ricky was to offer my services. He seemed to think it was a good idea and that we'd have a lot of fun. That's exactly what we're going to do, have a lot of fun. This racing opportunity is not going to distract from my team owner responsibilities with the SunTrust team, so I plan to enjoy the weekend with Tracy and his team."

Tell us your thoughts about you and Wayne driving together in the Koni Challenge GS race.

"I think Wayne has adequately explained the rationale behind it. I was quite pleased he offered to jump in the car in place of his son. That was very generous of him and I accepted easily. I've raced against Wayne a bunch. He is a fellow competitor but also a fellow owner, so it's very interesting to have him in the car with me. He's a great competitor and he's been doing this for a long time so he's the perfect guy to have in the car. It will be a lot of fun."
