The 2010 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge season marked the debut of the new Ford Racing BOSS 302R on the race track. Now that the season has come to a close, Scott Maxwell, driver of the No. 15 Multimatic BOSS 302R reflects on the progress the development program has made and talks about plans for the BOSS 302R during the off-season.
CAN YOU GIVE AN UPDATE ON THE PROGRESS OF THE BOSS 302R PROGRAM? "It was typical, this was a development program aimed at 2011. It started out strong and we proved quite early in the season that the speed is there with the car. As with most development programs, the whole idea is that you're trying to solve all of the initial problems that creep up with a car like this because everything is pretty new. The season at certain points was very frustrating, but we ended on a high note. We learned a lot about the car, a lot about what was wrong so we could make it right for next year. All in all, it went as I anticipated it would. I felt that Multimatic and Ford definitely worked together as a team. This has been a difficult year, but the payoff will be next year. We'll look at 2010 as a good investment of our time. "
NOW THAT THE SEASON HAS COME TO A CLOSE WHAT PLANS DO YOU HAVE AT MULTIMATIC TO GET THE BOSS BACK ON TRACK FOR 2011? "Actually, everyone thinks the season is over for us, but the month of October is going to be the busiest month yet because I think we have four straight weeks of testing and there's definitely a list of things we're going to attack from gearing, to the engine, to differentials, everything. We have a wish list of where we need to find speed and also reliability. We'll just keep chipping away at the list, and come out of the box strong in January at Daytona."
WITH THE WAY THE SEASON WENT THIS YEAR, ARE YOU ANXIOUS TO GET BACK IN THE SEAT AND START A FRESH SEASON? "It's been sort of a funny season in a sense that we're steadily improving. I'm glad this year is done and I can break away from the race track in the sense of race events. That will be nice so we can actually just focus on the car. I'll be excited for the first race in January or February in Daytona, that's when I'll get really excited to get back to the race track. Now, it's sort of getting down and dirty and get the car developed for next year so it is sort of the hard work part now."
