Gleason Adds Rolex Series Race To His Schedule This Weekend At the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course

JOHNSTOWN, Pa., June 21 - Chris Gleason of Johnstown, Pa. will compete in Saturday's Rolex Series race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio in addition to Sunday's Grand-Am Cup event there.

Gleason will drive BMWs in both races, which are part of the EMCO Gears Classic.

In Saturday's Rolex Series race he'll team up with Joey Hand of Sacramento, Calif. in the Matt Connolly Motorsports BMW M3 No. 21. This is the same BMW that Gleason and Ian James of Paradise Valley, Ariz. drove so successfully last year as members of the Prototype Technology Group factory BMW team.

Gleason is also doing all the Grand-Am Cup events this year in the Turner Motorsport BMW M3 No. 96 with Bill Auberlen of Redondo Beach, Calif. as his co-driver. They won the last Grand-Am Cup race, which was held May 29 at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn., and they'll be doing their best to duplicate those efforts Sunday at Mid-Ohio.

"In Sunday's race, Bill and I will try to make up some ground in the Grand-Am Cup point standings," Gleason said. "We're fourth going into Sunday's race."

Gleason and Auberlen have 105 points to the 118 of point leaders Andy Lally and Spencer Pumpelly at the Grand-Am Cup season's half-way point.

Gleason added that Hand will substitute for Boris Said of Carlsbad, Calif. in Sunday's Grand-Am Cup race, since Said will be racing in a NASCAR event at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif. this weekend. "Joey is going to be driving with Anders Hainer in another one of the Turner Motorsport cars on Sunday," Gleason disclosed.

But before that both Hand and Gleason will concentrate on trying to get a good set-up on the Matt Connolly Motorsports No. 21 for Saturday's Rolex Series race. "Joey and I are both looking forward to it," Gleason said. "The competition is tough, but Mid-Ohio has always been a good track for the M3."

Saturday's Rolex Series race will start at 5:30 p.m. The distance is 250 miles/111 laps or two hours and 45 minutes, whichever comes first. A total of 47 cars are entered.

Sunday's Grand-Am Cup race will start at 1 p.m. The distance for that event is 200 miles/89 laps or two hours and 30 minutes. A whopping 93 cars are entered, so staying out of trouble will be difficult and crucial.

Saturday's Rolex Series race will be broadcast on a one-day tape-delayed basis at 3 p.m. Eastern time this Sunday on SPEED.

Sunday's Grand-Am Cup race will be shown on the same network at 11 a.m. Eastern time on July 9.

Live timing and scoring of both races will be available on the Internet through grandamerican.com.

Gleason's weekend's work will begin Thursday with practice.

The races will be held rain or shine. At press time the weekend forecast is for periods of sun and clouds on Saturday, with a high of 76 and a low of 59. Sunday's forecast is for partly cloudy skies with a high of 81 and a low of 61. Sunday's forecast includes a chance of a thunderstorm.
