Grand American Renews With Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course Through End of Decade
LEXINGTON, Ohio (June 23, 2006) -- Officials from the Grand American Road Racing Association and Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course today announced that the two organizations will continue their relationship through the end of the decade.
The announcement means that the Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve and the Grand-Am Cup Series will continue racing at the historic 2.258-mile Midwestern road course through the 2010 racing season. Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course has hosted Rolex Series events every year since the inaugural season of 2000 with the exception of 2002, while the Grand-Am Cup Series--which began in 2001--has raced at the facility in each year of its existence.
"Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course has such a wonderful history and we are proud to announce that we are continuing our relationship," said Grand American President Roger Edmondson. "It is terrific that we have a long-term relationship that shows our fans, sponsors and competitors that we take a long view in our business plan with the track. Our races at Mid-Ohio have traditionally provided some of the most competitive and exciting racing we see each year, and we are delighted that the excitement will continue for many years to come."
After conducting events in August the past two years, the Grand American weekend at Mid-Ohio moved to June this season. Dates for next year's event will be announced at a later time. The Mid-Ohio race track underwent a complete repaving and a number of other improvements were also made to the facility prior to the 2006 racing season, which is celebrating its 45th season of racing this year.
"We are pleased to announce the continuation of our relationship with the Grand American Road Racing Association and look forward to playing a pivotal role in its future success," said TrueSports, Inc. President Michelle Trueman Gajoch. "The Grand American Series has witnessed phenomenal growth and this announcement shows our dedication and long-term commitment to sports car racing."
The Grand American Road Racing Association, which operates and sanctions the Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve and the Grand-Am Cup Series, is the premier road racing organization in North America. The 15-race 2006 Rolex Series schedule and the 10-race Grand-Am Cup calendar deliver professional sports car racing to key markets throughout North America in addition to being televised in the United States and Canada on SPEED and distributed globally through ESPN International. With title sponsorship support from Rolex Watch USA and presenting sponsorship from Crown Royal Special Reserve, the Rolex Series showcases emerging and legendary drivers from around the globe and thoroughbred racing machines from the industry's leading constructors and the world's top automobile manufacturers.
