Law Completes Busy Weekend With Grand American Series at Mid-Ohio

Grand American Road Racing Series standout Darren Law, completed a busy weekend at Mid-Ohio for the EMCO Gears Classic, where he raced the Red Bull Brumos Porsche Daytona Prototype in Rolex Series competition on Saturday, and then jumped in the Zoom Motorsports Porsche 996 for the Grand Am Cup race on Sunday. Although Darren had competitive runs during his driving stints in both cars, problems forced the early retirement of the two entries.

Rolex Series Action

Law's weekend started with the #58 Red Bull sponsored Brumos Racing Porsche Daytona Prototype in which he qualified a strong 7th with a lap of 1:22.105 around the 2.258 mile technical natural terrain road course that is the heart of the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. JHaving qualified the #58 entry, Law was obligated to start the 400-kilometer event, and was able to maintain his starting position until handling woes forced an unscheduled pitstop on lap 24. After a brief examination of the car by the Brumos crew, Law was sent back on track, only to return on lap 27 for a more comprehensive look at the Red Bull machine.

Law's teammate, David Donohue, took over the Brumos Porsche after the long stop and headed out on track on lap 38 with a 7-lap deficit to the leaders. Despite a strong drive, Donohue returned to the pit lane and retired the car on lap 55 of the 94-lap event.

Grand Am Cup

On Sunday Darren took over from teammate Mike McCalmont in the stunning black and silver #6 Zoom Motorsports prepared TTL/Brumos Porsche 996 for a stint in the Grand Am Cup race. A fantastic drive that saw Law pilot the #6 from the back of the field to as high as 5th overall, was tainted by an overheating issue which forced the retirement of the car on lap 68 of the 82 lap event.

I was really happy with the qualifying run in the Brumos (in the Rolex race.) We had a good car underneath us for the race, but as the event went on, we started to have a handling issue that made the car really hard to drive. The Brumos crew did a good job to get some quick changes made, and David got some good laps in later.

The Zoom crew did a great job on the car this weekend (in the Grand Am Cup race), and we had a strong run going. It's a shame that we had the overheating problem, because we were on track for a strong finish. We'll give it another shot in Phoenix.
